Not the worst news for the PV industry….

The only unexpected thing from our perspective about the news item seen today – ‘Major changes to government renewable energy subsidies’ – was the negative spin that has been put on it!

The FiT and ROC mechanisms in place for solar PV have been set for some time now and these will not be changing in the near future.

We have always known about the new Contracts for Difference (CfD) mechanism being introduced for large scale PV developments and in June this year we were given a draft figure for developments beyond 2015 of £125 per MWh.

Yes, we had hoped that the element of risk associated with developing large scale projects in the UK would be taken into consideration, however as time has gone by and guidance has been provided from planning authorities and good practice guidelines published from organisations such as the Solar Trade Association that along with improved dialogue with DNO’s, mean that many of these risks have been removed.

So a new set rate of £120 per MWh from 2015/16  is not the nail in the coffin for large scale PV developments that the headlines would suggest, especially if product prices continue to stabilise, guidance is followed and appropriate locations such as capped landfill sites are utilised.

In fact a legally binding set rate rather than unpredictable wholesale price tracking provides the necessary stability needed for investment peace of mind whilst protecting the consumer.

We are now BayWa r.e. Solar Systems Ltd

We are delighted to announce that we are now BayWa r.e. Solar Systems Ltd.

On Friday (27 September) we held a mid-morning event to celebrate our official renaming at our offices in Machynlleth, mid Wales. Günter Haug, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. and Frank Jessel, Head of International Operations flew in from Munich especially for the renaming ceremony held for directors and staff. The theme for the event was set using BayWa r.e. colour-coded tableware, flags and signage, green drinks and a triple layered chocolate cake sculpted in the style of our new logo. We also used the opportunity to raise some money for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning of behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The hour-long event included keynote speeches from Günter Haug and from UK Managing Director Ian Draisey. Günter Haug gave us a brief history of the BayWa Group and spoke about BayWa r.e. renewable energy’s plans for the coming year. This was then followed a symbolic physical renaming process to reverse the company name in a mosaic style jigsaw changing it to form another integral part of the whole BayWa r.e. renewable energy ‘jigsaw’ as shown in the photos below.

Ian then spoke and concluded his speech with: “Nothing has really changed apart from our company name and logo. We still operate by the same ethos and principles that we have for many years. And we are immensely proud to now be a full integrated part of the BayWa r.e. renewable energy group – a company of global significance in the renewable energy industry.”
